As you visit other people's homes in the game, you might see things suspended in air. Looking closer, you may see rugs floating over the ground, and even forming staircases that allow you to ascend higher and higher.
I call this the "Rug Trick".
To do this effect, you need 2 kinds of rugs: Long Blue Runner and Small Blue Trimmed Rug
Throughout this article, I will abbreviate the names of these rugs to: LBR & SBTR |
| | |
You will also need crates if you want create the stair-step effect.
There are 2 types of crates that work: The Dark Wood Crate and the Jellybean crate.
You can only buy these items in the Bazaar in Olde Town of Wizard City. It is right next to the seamstress. Be prepared to spend a lot of gold if you intend to build a staircase.
To begin, place 2 crate on the ground, side by side, in the direction you want to travel. Both crates have to be of the same kind. You can only travel North, South, East and West. You cannot go diagonally. |
Place a LBR on the ground and orient it in the same direction as the crates, meaning the long side of the rug is pointing in the direction you want to travel. Place a SBTR on the ground, and orient it the same way. |
The SBTR rug is sticky, like glue. When you place a SBTR on a LBR or on a crate, it will stick to it. So be sure to place it where you want it to go.
Place the SBTR so that it overlaps a skinny end of the LBR |
This is the tricky part. Select the SBR (it will turn bright, letting you know it was selected), choose the MOVE action, and place the SBR on top of the crates. When the object being held is in a location it can't be placed, the object will turn a shade of red. When the red is gone, you know it is OK to click and place the object. |
Choose the Move button |
Oops, it is misaligned, keep trying | | | | |
Click to place it on the crates |
Next, we connect another LBR to the left of the first one. This is done by sticking an SBTR on the new LBR as shown, then aligning it next to the first LBR. |
Now comes the even trickier part. We are going to remove the left LBR completely, and replace it with a third LBR, but this time, there will be nothing supporting the LBRs. They will be floating in the air one their own. |
SELECT CRATE under SBRT |
CHOOSE the PICK-UP option |
the CRATE and SBTR disappear |
SELECT CRATE under LBR |
CHOOSE the PICk-UP option |
the CRATE and the right-side LBR disappear |
This is a view from another angle to show rugs are floating |
The final step is to place a new LBR to the right of the floating LBR.
place LBR on ground, then SBTR on top of LBR as shown |
place LBRs side by side until they stick together |
Start all over with 2 crates on the floating rugs |
Your staircase will look like this. |
There is yet the trickiest thing you need to know.
You will be assembling the parts of the staircase on the grass,
but you will need to carry them up the staircase to the end in order to extend the staircase.
How can you move pre-assembled rugs and your avatar at the same time?
You use the mouse to carry the rugs, and the arrow keys to move your avatar.
With practice, it will feel natural. |
